A winter's evening at the church Notre-Dame-des-Victoires in Place Royale in the Lower Town (Basse-Ville) of Quebec City, Quebec - the square is the site where in 1608 Samuel de Champlain founded the first permanent French settlement in North America and part of the Historic District of Old Quebec (Vieux Quebec) - a UNESCO World Heritage Site - the church was built in 1688 and renamed Notre-Dame-de-la-Victoire in 1690 and Notre-Dame-des-Victoires in 1711 after the settlement was spared from attempted attacks by the English.
