Rattlesnake Tail
090801C7622
The tail of an Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake (Sistrurus catenatus catenatus) showing its rattle - loosely attached pieces of horn that knock together to create a rattling or buzzing sound which Ontario's only venoumous snake uses to warn off predators or anyone that gets too close. This one on the rocky shores of the French River near Georgian Bay did not feel threatened enough to let us hear its rattle
